The 50-year-old self-employed man, driving a pickup with his wife as passenger, is believed to have driven up a one-way exit ramp.
The ramp allows traffic to flow from the airport’s elevated flight departure section.
His vehicle collided head-on with a car that was going down the exit ramp and grazed three others parked by the side.
No one was injured in the mishap at 8.15pm.
The pickup driver, who tested negative for drugs, was detained by police for suspected reckless driving, an offence under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“The pickup driver is believed to be mentally unstable,” said city police chief ACP M Chandra.
The man was not found to be drunk, but police believe he was mentally unstable because of his behaviour and the way he talked.
The man will be referred to a hospital for further observation.
