KUALA LUMPUR: The education ministry will not introduce new conditions for food contractors at its educational institutions, said deputy minister P Kamalanathan.

He said the existing conditions applicable to all food contractors would be maintained according to the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the individual institutions.

Kamalanathan said this when approached by the media to comment on the recent case of an Indian food stall operator at the Seberang Perai Polytechnic (PSP) campus canteen whose contract was terminated on June 27.

The contractor, who operated the only Indian food stall at the polytechnic, claimed he was dismissed for non-compliance with shariah standards.

Kamalanathan, on the other hand, explained in a statement that the operator was let go due to “administrative reasons” and for not adhering to the terms of the contract.

He added that three Malay food stall operators at the institution also had their contracts terminated for the same reasons.

Asked what further action would be taken on the Indian food operator’s complaint, he said the ministry would leave it to PSP to resolve the issue.
