ALOR GAJAH: The late Kamarulzaman Khamis, brother-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was laid to rest at the Kampung Solok Air Batu Muslim Cemetery here this evening.

Kamarulzaman, who was 59, died at 10.59am due to heart complications at the Tuanku Mizan Military Hospital in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur.

Zahid, his wife Hamidah Khamis and about 300 family members, relatives and friends attended the burial at the cemetery at 4.15pm.

Also present were Melaka Yang-Dipertua Negeri Mohd Khalil Yaakob, Chief Minister Idris Haron and state executive councillors.

Kamarulzaman, the third younger sibling of Hamidah, was admitted to the Terendak Camp Hospital in Melaka at 3am yesterday, and was later transferred to the Tuanku Mizan Military Hospital.

He leaves behind wife Azaryasmin Mahat, 55, and two children, Mohamad Akhlami, 29, and Atiqah Hanani, 27.
