This is believed to be the first such public endorsement of Husam, the Parti Amanah Negara vice-president, by the DAP veteran.
Lim said Husam, the Salor assemblyman, would be a good role model for the people of Kelantan and the rest of the country.
Husam, who was considered a favourite of the late Kelantan menteri besar Nik Aziz Nik Mat, was vice-president of PAS when the party expelled him on charges of indiscipline in May 2016.
Husam had, by then, been a vocal critic of the party’s leadership under Abdul Hadi Awang, especially in Kelantan.
Lim said this at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri party jointly organised by the DAP Suara Muda, Kebun Sultan and Gajah Mati branches in Kota Bharu on June 29. He uploaded the text of his speech on his blog.
He said: “As I said in my fourth programme during Parti Amanah’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri national open house at the Kelantan Chinese Chamber of Commerce Hall in Kota Bharu this morning, the wind of political change is blowing strongly in the country, including Kelantan.”
He hoped by the time Hari Raya Aidilfitri was celebrated next year there would not only be a new federal government and a new prime minister, but also a new Kelantan state government and a new Kelantan menteri besar.
“I hope that Datuk Husam Musa will be the new Kelantan Menteri Besar in the Hari Raya Aidilfitri (celebrations) next year, and I will return to Kota Bharu next year to attend the new Pakatan Harapan Kelantan state government Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house.
Saying Malaysians were in critical need of role models, Lim added: “The former Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, although he was PAS Mursidul Am, was the role model of Malaysians who were not members of PAS.
“If Husam is elected as the new Kelantan Menteri Besar after the 14th General Election, he will become a new role model not only for Kelantanese but Malaysians in other states as well.”
He said it was unthinkable that Prime Minister Najib Razak, whose name had been tarnished by the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal, could be a suitable role model for the 30 million Malaysians.
“I cannot understand how Najib could be a role model for PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang, to the extent that he issued an open letter to political parties on the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri as good as asking all political leaders in the country to stop demanding accountability from the prime minister for the trio of 1MDB, US Department of Justice kleptocratic suits and global kleptocracy scandals.”
Hadi Awang had urged all quarters to reject foreign powers meddling in the nation’s affairs, as, he said, it was foreign intervention by the colonisers that had led to the fall of the Islamic government in Melaka.
“We shouldn’t repeat history by inviting foreign quarters to solve our problems such as the BMF scandal, Perwaja, Tabung Haji, EPF and 1MDB,” he had said.
