Night market trader jailed for robbing Uber driver

Ahmad Yushup admits to robbing Mohd Almizi Muhammad of his mobile phone and RM500 in cash as well as causing injury to the victim.

KUALA LUMPUR:
A night market trader who is currently serving a jail term for a drug offence in Negeri Sembilan was sentenced to another five years’ jail and a stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here today after he pleaded guilty to robbing an Uber driver using an iron rod last year.

Judge Shamsudin Abdullah meted out the punishment to Ahmad Yushup Masrial, 31, and ordered the father of two to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on March 26.

Ahmad Yushup admitted to having robbed Mohd Almizi Muhammad, 37, of his mobile phone and cash amounting to RM500, as well as causing injury to the victim during the incident at 4.30pm on Nov 20 last year.

He was charged under Section 394 of the Penal Code which provides a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping upon conviction.
