PETALING JAYA: The Susu Kangkang gang have shown no trace of having been rehabilitated, with the four members getting nabbed by the police again for stealing baby formula just months after their release from prison late last year.

According to The Star Online, the two men and two women, aged between 25 and 49, were caught stealing baby formula in tins and boxes from a supermarket in Dataran Sunway here on Wednesday night.

Speaking at a press conference, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said, “The gang is so named (Susu Kangkang) because they hide the baby formula under their clothes, in between their legs.”

The incident on Wednesday turned ugly when one of the suspects tried to hit an officer with a metal baton.

This happened when police pounced on the gang at the entrance of the supermarket as the four was making off with 21 cans and 17 boxes of baby formula.

Explaining their modus operandi, ACP Mohd Zani said the women would enter the shops or supermarkets pretending to be pregnant as the men acted as lookouts.

“The stolen items would be resold to smaller shops in various neighbourhoods where the residents were mostly illegal immigrants,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery.
