SIBU:
A television host and producer of a private television sports comedy show pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of intentionally ridiculing the name of the late father of former national sprinter Watson Nyambek.

The TV host, Azizul Ammar Abu Hassan, 30, and producer Abdul Ghani Mohd Mokhtar, 41, made the plea after the charge was read out to them before magistrate Saiful Sayoti.

Both of them were jointly charged with intentionally insulting Watson, 41, provoking the former national sprinter while being aware that the action could provoke a breach of peace.

They allegedly committed the offence on April 22 at about 11.30pm, during the “Sukan Tak Sentral” comedy show.

Saiful allowed both the accused bail of RM3,500 in one surety each and set July 4 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Dom Stiwin prosecuted while lawyer Sylvia Lu represented Azizul Ammar and Abdul Ghani.

On April 24, Watson lodged a police report after Azizul allegedly mimicked a goat’s bleat when he pronounced “Nyambek” during the comedy show.

Watson’s father passed away three years ago.
