SHAH ALAM: Despite PKR directing all its members who have political appointments in the Kelantan government to step down immediately on May 17, not a single one has done so till today.

Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob said the appointments are still in effect and everyone is functioning normally.

“They have not resigned from any post and till now things are normal as before,” he told reporters here last night, adding that there seemed to be an “understanding” on the matter.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had announced the decision to direct the members to quit their posts following the party’s political bureau meeting in the wake of PAS’ move to cut ties with PKR the week before.

She had said the message had been sent to the chairman of the Kelantan PKR leadership council.

PAS ended its ‘tahaluf siyasi” (political cooperation) with PKR on May 11 this year when its Syura Council endorsed the decision of its muktamar (general assembly) to sever ties with the party.

Meanwhile, PKR’s Guchil assemblyman Mohd Roslan Puteh when met by reporters confirmed that up till now political appointments like municipal councillors, village headmen and constituency coordinators were unchanged among PKR members.

“This is because there is still negotiation going on between leaders at the state and national levels,” he said.

He said despite the talk of resigning, formal letters on the matter have not been sent yet as far as he knew.

He added that he still received allocations without any changes for his constituency from the state government.

“I do not get even a sen less than the assemblymen who are members of PAS,” he said.

He also dismissed any notion of the PAS-led Kelantan government marginalising PKR as “coffee-shop talk”.
