Relating the “disgusting” episode on Facebook on Monday night, a 29-year-old said the incident happened in a restaurant in Johor Bahru, the Oriental Daily reported in a news item carried by The Star Online.
In an interview with the Chinese daily on Wednesday, the woman said the stained bandage in the soup was reported to the restaurant manager, who promptly removed the offensive dish but without offering an apology or explanation.
The woman said she was later informed that the restaurant did not charge her for the soup.
The whole episode however has left her and her family members uneasy over the extent of contamination in the soup as they had already consumed a portion of it.
She also questioned the unhygienic practices of the kitchen staff.
“I believe the incident happened because the kitchen staff did not wear gloves while preparing food.
“I do not know how much bacteria was attached to the adhesive bandage, or if it will bring any transmittable disease, the daily reported her as saying, adding that the businesswoman had also lodged a complaint with the state heath department on Tuesday over the matter.
She also said her family members suffered diarrhoea soon after the horrid experience.
“I have no idea if it was caused by the soup but it was too disgusting. My mother and I even had nightmares after the incident,” she said.
