MELAKA:
The Melaka government wants pig farmers in Paya Mengkuang, Alor Gajah, near here to be committed to effluent control.

Chief Minister Idris Haron said effluent discharge from the farms into Sungai Tuang had been going on for a long time because of a lack of commitment on the part of the farmers to end the problem.

As such, he said the state government was giving the farmers three months to work with the authorities to end the problem once and for all.

He was speaking after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting in Ayer Keroh here today.

Bernama, on May 12, had reported that resort operators in the area were fed up with the pollution because it was affecting the tourism industry.
