Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said PDRM had sent an investigation team to Thailand to conduct intelligence work following the detention of the two men.
“Leave it to the Thai authorities to take action. They (the drug lords) will face Thai laws.
“Subsequently, we have also sent our officers to obtain intelligence on the involvement of other individuals in Malaysia,” he told reporters here today.
On Monday, Bernama reported that the suspects – Mr T or Malaysian Iceman from Johor, and Mr G from Penang – were detained by Thai authorities last week.
They were deemed the most important members of an international drug syndicate responsible for smuggling hundreds of kilos of drugs to Malaysia.
Mr T, 64, who has stayed in Thailand for 20 years and was fluent in Thai, was nabbed by Thai police at the Hatyai Airport upon arrival from Chiang Rai on April 19.
Mr G, meanwhile, was arrested when preparing to board a flight to Malaysia after entering Thailand before the holiday in conjunction with Songkran.
On a separate matter, Khalid said it was yet to be verified whether Islamic State militant chief Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi had been killed in an attack in Syria.
“We do not rule out the possibility of other reasons for prompting the claim. We have also met his family on the case. However, let us investigate first to determine if he is dead or alive.”
On April 29, Wanndy’s wife, Nor Mahmudah Ahmad, 28, wrote a post on Facebook implying that her husband had been killed in a drone attack in Ma’dan, Syria.
Wanndy, 26, from Durian Tunggal, Malacca, was believed to have masterminded several attacks in the region including one on an entertainment centre in Puchong, near here last year.
