No, no, no, say netizens to Pakatan Harapan’s 3 proposed logos

No, no, no, say netizens to Pakatan Harapan’s 3 proposed logos

The designs of the 3 shortlisted logos are 'lame', with 2 using colours similar to those of Umno, lament social media users.

PETALING JAYA:
Pakatan Harapan (PH) probably did not expect this when it shortlisted three logos – one of which it hopes to be the pact’s logo – for public comment.

Netizens have given all three logos the thumbs down, including, ironically, one logo which has a thumbs up sign.

The logos were posted on PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli’s Facebook page.

PH hopes to adopt one of these to be used by all the pact’s member parties to challenge the “dacing” of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election.

In an explanatory note, Rafizi said PH would register the chosen logo in two weeks’ time.

“The presidential council shortlisted the logos last week and (wants to) share them with Malaysians for their feedback,” he said in the post.

He urged social media users to state their preferred design in the comments section.

Two of the three logos contain the word “HARAPAN” with rays radiating outwards from the word. These two logos with the same designs, however, use different fonts and background colours – one background in orange and the other in red.

The third design incorporates a “thumbs up” sign against a red and white background with the words PAKATAN HARAPAN.

Some social media users criticised the designs and choice of colours, saying the red and white were too similar to the colours of BN’s Umno and newest Pakatan Harapan member Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

Others pointed out that orange was the colour of Amanah, another Pakatan Harapan member party, and said the pact should go for a more neutral colour.

“Aren’t there any other logos? Ya Allah (Oh God), this logo is so bland,” wrote one netizen named Mohamad Khairuddin, who suggested a convention be held for designers to design a logo.

“Too lame… think harder..” said Rajan Subramaniam while Kamar Abd Hanan dismissed the shortlisted designs as “not interesting, lacking character and identity as a coalition of Pakatan parties. Please engage graphic design experts to assist you with it”.

On the “thumbs up” design, some social media users cautioned it could be abused by the opposition’s enemies who might “turn” the thumb upside down, while one commentator quipped it looked similar to the logo of a popular peanut brand.

Previously, PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said the opposition should have a single logo and symbol to contest in the next general election.

Pakatan Harapan comprises DAP, PKR, Amanah and PPBM.
