IGP: Turkish men arrested, not abducted

Khalid Abu Bakar says Turgay Karaman and Ihsan Aslan were arrested last night in connection with activities that threatened national security.

PETALING JAYA: The two Turkish citizens who allegedly went missing in Kuala Lumpur yesterday were arrested, not abducted, according to Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.

In a tweet today, Khalid confirmed that Turgay Karaman and Ihsan Aslan were arrested yesterday in connection with activities that threatened national security.

He said they were arrested under Section 130 of the Penal Code.

“@PDRMsia sahkan Warga Turkey, T. Karaman dan I. Aslan di tkap semalam berkait akviti yg mengancam keselamatan Msia di bwh Sect 130 KK,” Khalid tweeted.

Yesterday, a Turkish blog said a police report had been filed over Karaman’s case, while details were being compiled for Aslan’s case which would also be reported to the police.

In the report sighted by FMT, Karaman, who is a principal with an international school in Ipoh, was said to have been abducted in the car park of Wisma E&C in Damansara Heights yesterday afternoon.

His wife, Ayse, claimed five Malaysian men had abducted her husband, based on CCTV footage at the car park. She said she had not received any information about him since the abduction. His car was also left behind in the car park.

The blog,Turkish Minute, also reported friends of Aslan as saying that he had been abducted in KL. However, the exact location of his abduction was not stated.
