IPOH: A three-year-old girl was hit and killed by a van which also crashed into two women at the Golden Hill night market in Cameron Highlands last night.

Adra Mustaffa Kamal, from Kampung Tenglu Laut, Mersing, Johor Baru, sustained head injuries and died at the Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital in Tanah Rata.

The other two victims suffered leg and head injuries and were sent to the same hospital before being transferred to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for further treatment.

Cameron Highlands police chief DSP Hasadid A Hamid said the accident occurred at 9.45pm while the child was looking at some toys with her parents and two siblings at a stall.

He identified the van driver as Ching See Siang @ Hee See Siang, 30, a hawker, who was driving away after closing his stall.

“The van lurched forward and hit some stalls and people at the site including the dead girl,” he said in a statement today.

Hasadid said Ching, who was unhurt, lodged a police report later, saying that he had suddenly experienced body cramps and passed out while driving.

Ching has been detained for investigation under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
