ALOR SETAR:
The PAS Supporters’ Wing – which comprises non-Muslims – wants to see PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang assume the prime minister’s post, replacing Prime Minister Najib Razak after the next general election (GE14).

“We want to see the PAS president as the first prime minister from PAS, followed by (PAS deputy president) Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man because these two icons have inherited the struggles of Prophet Muhammad.

“We hope there won’t be any prime minister from Umno after this. Why do we want PAS? Because we want to see PAS administer Malaysia with fairness for all Malaysians,” said the wing’s chairman, N Balasubramaniam in his wrap up speech at the PAS muktamar here today.

Balasubramaniam also urged non-Muslims to not be afraid of PAS because the Islamist party never sought to force non-Muslims to embrace Islam, saying although members of the wing have been with PAS for a long time, they’ve never been asked to embrace Islam despite going for Islamic classes of their own free will.

He added this was why the wing’s members weren’t alarmed with PAS’ push to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) as it was only for Muslims.

This year’s muktamar is the second party assembly since the 2015 party elections which saw the defeat of several veteran leaders who were contesting for top posts.

These leaders later set up Amanah, which is now part of Pakatan Harapan together with PKR, DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
