Party president Abdul Hadi Awang said the decision was made during a special meeting of the central committee following the conclusion of the 63rd PAS muktamar (general assembly) at Kota Sarang Semut near here.
“We just had a meeting and have agreed that Takiyuddin should be retained as secretary-general for another term,” he said at a press conference.
Takiyuddin recently gained prominence when he seconded Hadi’s tabling of the motion to increase shariah punishments in the Dewan Rakyat on April 6.
He delivered an impassioned defence of Hadi in pursuing the amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, and conveyed a detailed explanation of the party’s stand on the matter.
On April 16, he withdrew his candidacy for the party’s vice-presidents’ race.
The contest today saw Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi losing to incumbents Mohd Amar Abdullah, Idris Ahmad and Iskandar Samad for the three vice-presidents’ seats.
The elections for the party’s central committee posts saw more than 90% of the officials from the previous term holding on to their posts, many of them uncontested.
Hadi and his deputy Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man themselves retained their respective positions unchallenged.
The duo will now lead the party in its preparations to face the 14th General Election which is due by the middle of next year.
