Nasrudin had entered the contest for the three vice-presidents posts taking on incumbents Idris Ahmad, Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah and Iskandar Samad.
Idris garnered 1,062 votes followed by Nik Amar (920 votes), Iskandar (703 votes) and Nasrudin (487 votes).
Initially, it was supposed to be a five-cornered fight but PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan pulled out of the race, saying the present leadership line up was best for the party in facing the next general election (GE14).
Earlier, in his wrap up speech, Nasrudin said he hoped he wouldn’t win because he wanted to show his undivided loyalty to PAS if he loses, compared with former party leaders who left PAS after they lost in party elections.
He said his participation in the contest – which came about after his candidacy was proposed – was part of healthy competition in the context of party democracy.
After the results were announced by PAS Election Committee chairman Wan Mutalib Embong, Nasrudin was all smiles.
“I hope I won’t be chosen and with that I can prove that despite not being chosen, I won’t follow in the footsteps of the G18 two years ago,” referring to the group of 18 PAS leaders who lost in the party elections in 2015, and who eventually left to form Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
Most of the main leadership posts in the party were already known as they were uncontested.
Also announced were the 18 PAS central working committee members, which included former PAS Youth chief Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and Kuala Nerus MP Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali.
