PETALING JAYA: An act of self-defence by a man in response to the actions of his mentally-unstable neighbour resulted in the death of the latter, The Star reported.

In the incident which took place in Raub, Pahang last Saturday, the mentally unstable man, 45-year-old Chin Yook Sin, had allegedly tried to attack his neighbour with two iron rods.

Seeing Chin come at him with the two iron rods, the 55-year-old neighbour was able to wrest the rods and fend him off.

According to the police, the neighbour, who is now under arrest, said that Chin then picked up another rod and that was when he hit Chin with the iron rods he had seized earlier.

Chin later died in the Raub Hospital while receiving treatment for severe head injuries as well as broken bones in his arm and legs.

The suspect claims to have acted in self-defence, as the police classified the case as murder.

Raub OCPD Supt Wan Zahari Wan Busu said they will investigate the case thoroughly, considering the circumstances of the case and the long-term feud between the neighbours.

According to The Star, the suspect had known the man for more than 10 years and was aware of his unstable condition.

Chin was also said to have frequently disturbed and verbally abused the suspect and the suspect’s family from his house in Taman KSM, Sungai Ruan.

Explaining the events of last Saturday, police said that Chin called out the suspect’s name in the 7.50pm incident before attacking him.
