PETALING JAYA:
A bogus housing developer has been uncovered selling non-existent properties, police said today.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the scam, theSundaily reported.

Sentul district police chief ACP R Munusamy said 16 reports have been lodged in connection with the case so far, with losses amounting to about RM80,000.

Police got the break when a victim made a report on April 18.

The woman had seen the advertisement online about housing units on sale in Sungai Tua.

She went to the showroom on Jalan Segambut where the “developer” had models of the housing development, offering each unit for RM120,000. She paid RM5,000 as booking fee.

However, she decided to check out the developer with the Selayang Municipal Council and was shocked when told there was no such project or licence issued.

The land in question was also owned by four people unrelated to the developer.

Following the police report, police arrested three men and a woman, aged between 31 and 51. Two other suspects are being sought.

Munusamy told the daily that one of the suspects was previously involved in another scam selling non-existent vehicles.
