KUALA LUMPUR: A special committee will be set up to help fine-tune the proposed amendments to the Legal Profession Act (LPA) 1976 to enable it to be tabled at the next Parliament session, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman.

The committee comprises representatives of the government and the Bar Council.

Azalina said it would play a role in ensuring the welfare of those involved in the legal sector, especially the 17,000 members of the Bar Council, is maintained.

“I hope this special committee can look at the LPA again and review all aspects of the proposed amendments to the Act.

“And I hope the establishment (of the committee) will be beneficial to all members of the Bar Council,” she told reporters at the Parliament lobby here today.

Earlier, Azalina, who is also the Pengerang MP, received a courtesy call from a delegation from the Bar Council, led by its new president, George Varughese.
