PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s foreign affairs ministry has “taken note” of the apology from Singapore’s Mediacorp Channel 5 and artist Najip Ali, for ridiculing Prime Minister Najib Razak on a TV talkshow.
Wisma Putra, in a statement today, said the Malaysian government viewed seriously the insults directed at the country’s leadership and hoped such incidents would not recur.
“Malaysia and Singapore will continue to work towards elevating bilateral relations to greater heights for the mutual benefit of both countries.
“It is, therefore, imperative that this relationship is nurtured in the spirit of harmony and mutual respect,” it said.
On the March 29 episode of “OK Chope!” which was aired live, the panellists, among which was Najip, poked fun at Najib.
Indignant Malaysians, including Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak and Persatuan Seniman Malaysia, responded with calls for an apology.
