Malaysian peeping Tom in Perth says he fantasised about rape

50-year-old airline pilot is charged with burglary, unlawful wounding, deprivation of liberty and five counts of sexual penetration of a woman without her consent.

PETALING JAYA: A 50-year-old Malaysian airline pilot has admitted to police in Australia that he was once a peeping Tom and often fantasised about breaking into the home of a woman he watched and raping her.

Alfred Gerard Eravelly, made this confession to police officers interrogating him only after they agreed to turn off their video camera, news portal Perth Now reported.

He also told police, after heavy questioning, that he did not enjoy carrying out his fantasy.

This was revealed in the District Court by prosecutor Sean Dworcan, during the opening of the state case yesterday in which Alfred is on trial for repeatedly raping a 38-year-old woman at knifepoint 21 years ago after climbing in through the bathroom window of her Perth home, Perth Now reported.

Alfred has been charged with burglary, unlawful wounding, deprivation of liberty and five counts of sexual penetration without consent.

Dworcan told the court Alfred was an aviation student living in Scarborough when he went to the woman’s house, wearing a stocking over his head and carrying a knife and torchlight.

He is alleged to have shoved the victim onto her stomach before blindfolding her and tying her hands behind her back. He is alleged to have then raped the victim on the bed, the news portal said, and knifed her in the arm, resulting in a wound that required stitches.

Dworcan told the court DNA samples taken from the woman’s bedding and breast were eventually matched to Alfred in 2015 after an advancement in DNA technology.

Alfred however has stuck to his version that the two had consensual sex three times the night before the alleged attack and that the victim was making false allegations, Dworcan said.

Alfred’s defence lawyer Tom Percy said his client struck up a consensual sexual relationship with the victim after meeting her at a bar in Leederville.

Percy also told the court, the victim had invited Alfred to her house and that the subsequent tying of hands and blindfolding was a form of sex play to “excite him” (Alfred).

“This was simply part of the sex play on the night,” Perth Now quoted Percy as saying.

Percy said that his client asked the woman for money later and when she refused, he “blackmailed” her by threatening to tell her partner about their sexual tryst.

According to Percy, the woman became angry and told Alfred, “You bastard, I’m going to report you, just watch the news tonight.”

The report also said Percy told the court there was no evidence to suggest forced entry into the woman’s house.

The trial continues.
