
Kota Kinabalu City police chief ACP M.Chandra said the incident happened about 5pm when a police team went to the suspect’s house to arrest him for allegedly causing hurt to his wife.
He said angered by the police presence, the man, in his 30s, who was armed with a knife, lunged at one of the policemen. However, the policeman managed to evade the attack and fled before jumping into the sea.
However, the suspect, went after the policeman and jumped into the water. Despite warning from other policemen to surrender, the man refused, forcing the police to fire at him, he said in a statement here today.
Chandra said the suspect, who was shot in the back, was carried to a boat to be taken to hospital for treatment, but died at the Marine Police jetty.
