The ministry told FMT the Selangor Health Department shut down the popular grocery yesterday under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 after discovery of the rat.
It is understood the grocery will be closed for two weeks for cleaning.
Before the closure, a video purportedly taken at the grocery of a rat sitting on top of a shelf went viral.
FMT’s attempts to seek Aeon and 1Utama’s comments were unsuccessful.
Last October, Komugi Bakery Malaysia had to apologise after a rat was spotted on one of its trays, containing freshly baked bread at its outlet in Mid Valley Megamall.
Calling it an “unfortunate incident”, the bakery franchise said the rat problem was a “known issue” at the mall, Star Online had reported.
Subsequently, Mid Valley Megamall said the bakery would be shut down temporarily for thorough cleaning and review of operational procedures, and that the mall would work with all tenants to improve hygiene standards at the mall.
