SHAH ALAM:
The three Selangor state executive councillors (excos) from PAS will remain in the PKR-led state government’s administration until ordered by the party leadership to do otherwise.

Selangor PAS Commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad said they would wait for the outcome of the party “muktamar” (general assembly) next month before deciding on the next course of action.

“I’ll abide by any order by the party president. So far, there is none (to step down as exco),” he told reporters here today.

Besides Iskandar, the other two PAS excos are Zaidy Abdul Talib and Ahmad Yunus Hairi.

Relations between PAS and PKR have become strained following a decision by PKR to cooperate with PAS-splinter party Amanah and DAP.

In another development, Iskandar said the decision by the federal government to not table the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendments) Act 2016 or RUU 355 in the Parliament would not hamper PAS from pursuing the matter.

“We will proceed, it is our initiative. We believe party president (Abdul Hadi Awang) will table it,” he said.

Last Wednesday, Prime Minister Najib Razak said the government would not be tabling the bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.

Najib said the decision came following the consensus reached over the matter at the Barisan Nasional (BN) supreme council meeting, which he chaired earlier.
