He said the amount showed an increase in payment compared with the year 2015, which amounted to RM2.7 billion while the compensation for accidents and non-communicable diseases this year involved RM731 million.
“We see Socso’s benefit payments increasing every year. That is why we entered into this programme with Epic to bring awareness to employees on non-communicable diseases and to prevent accidents (motorcycle accidents).
“We are concerned about the number of motorists involved in accidents, and the suffering borne by their families, the victims themselves and the companies employing them.
“If they lose their jobs or die, all sides will lose,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the “Socso Cares Jointly With Epic Berhad” programme, which was launched by Epic Group chief operating officer Wan Shukri Mohamad here today.
He added that on April 1, Socso will launch “Op-Kesan” to detect employers who do not register their company and employees with Socso.
