Its president, George Varughese said the CBC was required to ensure high standards at the Bar.
“CBC dialogues and discussions are ongoing…in this matter, we still wish to pursue with the CBC, with the judiciary on board and I believe the Attorney-General’s Chambers is also on board,” he said at the press conference after the 71th Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Bar here yesterday.
He also said the proposal (on CBC) had been submitted (to public universities) and the Malaysian Bar would proceed to push forward the proposal and try to convince public universities to see the benefits of having CBC.
The proposed CBC is to replace the Certificate in Legal Practice that had been introduced in 1984 before lawyers could become practising lawyers.
More than 800 people attended the AGM and four of the six motions tabled were approved.
