GEORGE TOWN:
A parent of the teen driver who drove against the flow of traffic on the North-South Expressway is sad that she was only taken for treatment a day after the incident.

Father of 19-year-old Ng Pei Ven told the China Press that his daughter was only treated a day later despite suffering from a dislocated right shoulder and a bruise on her left eye.

“After her arrest, my daughter was forced to bear the pain for more than a day. She was treated at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital only a day later.

“After posting bail, when I took her back home, she could not tolerate even a small bump as her hand still hurt so badly,” Ng’s father, who was unnamed, told the China Press as they arrived at their Sungai Dua, Butterworth home.

FMT has contacted Central Seberang Prai police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid for comment and is awaiting his reply.

Meanwhile when contacted by FMT, Penang Health Department director Dr Sukumar Mahesan said Ng should return for follow-up treatment if she was still in severe pain.

Ng was charged with consuming illegal drugs at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. She pleaded not guilty and was allowed RM5,000 bail with one surety.

In the Tuesday morning incident, Ng drove her Proton Gen 2 car against the flow of traffic before the Sungai Dua northbound toll plaza, crashing into a total of nine vehicles, including a Perodua Kelisa, killing driver Mohamad Fandi Rosli, 26, a factory worker on the spot.

Ng told police she had made an abrupt U-turn after she saw a lorry stalled in the middle lane before the toll plaza. Police however have confirmed through video footage of the scene, that no such lorry had stalled.

Ng is expected to be charged next week for driving under the influence, police say, whist awaiting lab results on her blood alcohol content.
