PETALING JAYA: A Singaporean man who allegedly drove a van into several motorcyclists at the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) in the island republic on Saturday was today charged with causing the deaths of two people during the incident.

Koh Boon Ping, 24, was charged with two counts of causing death by failing to keep a proper lookout while driving at about 3.50pm that day.

The victims, both Malaysians, have been identified as Loke Whay Mam, 50, and Lim Chun Hong, 34.

The Straits Times reported today that Koh, who was dressed in a green t-shirt and sporting dyed hair, was offered bail of $15,000.

If convicted, he faces imprisonment of up to five years with a possible fine on each charge, the report said.

It cited court documents as saying that he collided into the two men while they were standing with their motorbikes on the road shoulder

Six other motorcyclists who were at the same place sustained head and body injuries.

They were sent to the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for treatment while another motorcyclist at the scene escaped injuries. They were also all Malaysians.

A video clip showing several men lying on the road after the accident has been widely shared on social media. It shows one person having been flung over a railing along the road and onto a grass patch.

The video shows two others were lying on the road, motionless and bleeding, the Straits Times reported.

Loke and Lim are believed to have died upon impact.

The case is fixed for further mention on March 27.
