Speaking to The Star daily today, he said the commission must be allowed to do its job, and should also be given every assistance in its investigations.
“Let the MACC carry out its investigations and allow the law to take its course,” the ruler was quoted as saying.
The sultan’s remarks come a day after MACC arrested Johor exco member Abdul Latif Bandi over a housing and land scandal in the state.
Latif’s son and his special officer were arrested earlier but released yesterday on MACC bail. A lawyer has also been detained in connection with the case. They were among six men detained on Feb 24 during an MACC operation.
MACC has seized 21 luxury cars, five high-powered motorcycles, cash of RM500,000, including foreign currency, and documents.
In addition, 45 bank accounts belonging to all the suspects involved, amounting to RM15.5 million, were frozen to help in investigations.
Speaking to The Star today, the Johor ruler said he was regularly updated by the police and MACC but added that the palace would not interfere in any investigations.
“The palace does not interfere nor does it protect anyone,” he was quoted as saying.
The Ruler added that no one was above the law and that there should be no exceptions for anyone, the daily reported.
