Referring to a report filed with the MACC yesterday by two DAP men, the minister in the prime minister’s department said he welcomed any investigation into the issue.
“It is clear this report is politically motivated but nonetheless, I assure the public that I will give full cooperation to the MACC.
“Having said that, I will look into the breach of Section 29(4) of the MACC Act when DAP leaders held a press conference about the report,” Rahman said in reference to the media statements by the two DAP grassroots leaders from Batu Kawan, after they filed their report at the Penang MACC office.
Yesterday, the two men, Satees Muniandy and P David Marshel lodged the report alleging that Rahman, had in 2015, during his tenure as urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister, abused his powers by granting a 12-month Extension of Time (EOT) order to BHL Construction Sdn Bhd.
The extension resulted in 104 house buyers being unable to claim compensation from the developer for not meeting the targeted completion date of their condos in Jalan Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur.
“His actions are tantamount to misappropriation and misuse of powers as a housing and local government minister,” Satees and David had declared in their report filed with the MACC.
The DAP duo also alleged that a woman who claimed to be a director of BHL had lobbied for the extension although she was supposedly not part of the company.
“Despite having all the resources to verify the woman’s position in the said company, he (Rahman) had not done so.
“Hence, Rahman had purposely misused his powers as a minister to write letters to allow an extension of the said condominium project,” Satees and David said in their report.
The issue came to light on Feb 27, when the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled against developer BHL Construction Sdn Bhd in a suit filed by house buyers, over the legality of the 12-month extension.
Rahman has since said that the urban wellbeing, housing and local government ministry will be appealing the decision.
