The prime minister spent about 30 minutes to take a close look at the Sikh house of worship this evening.
He said the renovation work would help the Sikh community to carry out their religious events and weddings in a more comfortable atmosphere.
“A majority of them have served long with the military and police forces. They have served the country, and it is only right that we recognise their deeds,” he told reporters.
Najib said the harmony among the people of the various communities and religions was a pillar of national unity and integration.
“We have to practise mutual respect among all groups of society regardless of religion, culture or skin colour because we are Malaysians and are committed to our country.”
Meanwhile, the secretary of the Gurdwara Sahib Kuyow Management Committee, Mukhtear Singh Jit Singh, expressed his gratitude for the assistance.
“Although we are a minority, our plight is championed by the Barisan Nasional government.”
He said the renovated gurdwara would help the estimated 500 members of the Sikh community in the vicinity to conduct their religious activities.
