Anis, the Universiti Malaya student who organised the #TangkapMO1 rally last year, said youths would know what was of interest to their peers and would therefore be better than their elders at persuading newly eligible voters to register.
“Youths are bored of programmes organised by politicians who may not know how to influence them,” she told FMT. “So it should be us who organise these programmes for ourselves.”
She said it was incumbent upon youths who knew the importance of voting to get other youths on board as registered voters.
“We can at the very least teach them why their votes are so important and how each of them has the responsibility to vote for the future of our nation.”
“There are still a lot of youths who have not registered as voters and we’re running out of time. The 14th general election is right around the corner.”
She suggested the setting up of voter registration booths at the proposed youth-organised programmes.
Anis disclosed that she and some friends would be conducting live talk shows on the Facebook page Prihatin Politik – Pripol.
Bersih 2.0 chief Maria Chin Abdullah had earlier launched a new campaign to register voters. She told reporters 4.4 million qualified voters had yet to register.
