KUALA LUMPUR:
All is quiet within the North Korean embassy building on Jalan Batai, Kuala Lumpur, in contrast to the hive of activity outside where local and foreign media have set up camp.

Camera and video equipment have been set up and trained on the two-storey bungalow to capture the slightest flicker of movement inside while journalists wait at the gate in hopes of a comment or two from North Korean officials.

The media have been there since early this morning. Those from foreign news channels flew into the city upon learning of the murder of Kim Jong Nam, the exiled half-brother of North Korean president Kim Jong Un, on Monday night at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).

At about 2pm today, North Korean ambassador to Malaysia, Kang Chol, walked hurriedly out the front door and got into a waiting car without saying a word.

Other officials walking around the compound also ignored the media.

Malaysian police in a statement last night confirmed the death of a North Korean national whose passport identified him as Kim Chol from Pyongyang.

Kim Chol is believed to be the assumed name of Jong Nam when he travelled.

Malaysian officials have refused to confirm the identity of the dead man pending fingerprint and DNA tests.

As investigations into Kim Chol’s death intensified, reports indicated that Malaysian police made their first arrest on the case – a taxi driver.

Closed-circuit television camera footage at klia2 showed that the taxi driver had picked up two fair-skinned Asian women – the same two police believe can shed light on Jong Nam’s sudden death.
