TAIPING:
The Perak government, through the State Sports Council (MSN), handed over an insurance compensation of RM40,710 for state gymnast Lim Wei Yao to his family today.

Lim died after he fell during training at the Sekolah Kebangsaan King Edward VII (2) Artistic Gymnastic Hall here on May 6 last year.

Lim, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Darul Ridwan here, injured the back of the neck and died at the Taiping Hospital the same day.

The cheque for the amount was presented to Lim’s mother Chong Choi Kim at her house in Taman Long Jaafar here today.

State Health, Public Transportation, Non-Muslim Affairs, National Integration and New Villages Committee chairman Dr Mah Hang Soon hoped the compensation would help ease the burden of Lim’s family.

Chong, 45, said she would use the compensation to finance her other children’s education.

She said the deceased was the third of four siblings and had been keen about gymnastics since he was 12.

“I accept the incident and regard it as fate,” she said.
