The suspects, aged 53 and 27, are believed to have carried out the misappropriation since 2010.
According to a source, the misdeed was uncovered when the salaries of the staff of the JMB company, which maintained more than 500 condominium units, went unpaid from June 2016.
“The former secretary was detained at his house in Jalan Klang Lama at 10.30am while the accountant was nabbed in Sungai Petani, Kedah, at 1.30pm.
“Other than being the JMB’s secretary in 2012, the suspect had also held the general manager’s post of an associate company of the JMB in 2010,” the source told Bernama.
The source said both the suspects were expected to be taken to the Putrajaya magistrate’s court for remand orders and that the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Azam Baki, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the arrests.
“To date, MACC has recorded the statements of several witnesses who are believed to be able to help in investigations into the case, other than seizing several documents and laptops from the two suspects,” he added.
