Noraihan Che Ali, the sister-in-law of Bahri Mohamad Zain — the former director of MACC’s Special Operations Division — said this in response to police reports filed against her by both Bahri and his wife, Noor Haslina, last week.
According to Malaysiakini, the reports were lodged in Kelantan. In his report, Bahri had accused Noraihan of making a false report against him and alleging he had abused his powers to order a raid on her house.
Bahri said he made a written declaration to his superiors to be excluded from the investigation because there was a conflict of interest as the matter involved his wife and her siblings.
“Following this, the operation was led by someone else and not by me,” read Bahri’s report, which was sighted by the portal.
But Bahri’s admission that there was indeed an investigation conducted on Noraihan was a red flag in itself as it concerned a matter that was not under MACC’s jurisdiction, Noraihan pointed out.
“I was made to understand that Bahri’s wife was the one who lodged a report with the MACC against me. It alleged that I had forged my late husband’s signature,” she said in a statement today.
“The MACC website says the Special Operations Division was formed in April 1, 2010 to investigate high-profile cases that are of the public interest.
“I demand that those from Bahri’s side, MACC and also the police explain which part of this dispute over a family’s inheritance is considered a high-profile case involving public interest.”
Noraihan also demanded that the authorities explain the result of the probe by the MACC’s Special Operations Division against her and the reason why they hadn’t returned any documents on the inheritance left by her late husband.
The documents were allegedly seized in a raid on her house and her office over a year ago.
Noraihan, the director of Kolej Islam Sains dan Teknologi (KIST), had at a press conference last week, claimed that Bahri instructed a team from his division to raid her house where documents related to her college and other businesses were confiscated.
She said her late husband, Muhamad Zamly Abdullah, who was the former owner of KIST, and the elder brother of Bahri’s wife, left assets worth RM100 million and debts amounting to RM85 million.
Following this, she claimed there was a dispute between his siblings, Noraihan and the couple’s nine-year-old son.
