We’ll retain Kedah with bigger win, says Umno

'Pakatan and PPBM have formed an alliance to their own detriment.'

PETALING JAYA:
Kedah Umno has dismissed a PKR speculation that the ruling party will lose seats in three-cornered fights in the state.

Tajul Urus Mat Zain, a Kedah Umno executive committee member, told FMT he was confident his party would at least retain all the seats it currently occupies in the state assembly.

“In fact, our majority will increase,” he said. “There is no doubt in my mind that BN will win again in Kedah.”

He was commenting on Kedah PKR chief Dr Azman Ismail’s claim that the Pakatan-PPBM alliance would have the advantage in three-cornered fights in Kedah and that “PAS and Umno will be disadvantaged.”

Tajul laughed off Azman’s statement, saying Pakatan and PPBM would be the ones to suffer from the very fact that they had decided to enter into an electoral pact.

He said the cooperation between the opposition coalition and the fledgling party was “superficial” and the voters would be able to see through it.

“In the past, DAP was completely opposed to Dr Mahathir,” he said, referring to the PPBM supremo. “Mahathir himself used to refer to DAP as a racist party. But today they are cooperating.

“When Kedahans see this cooperation, they know that these are leaders without principles and they are working together only for their own selfish political ends.

“What Kedahans want are leaders who work hard for the state, not for themselves.”
