According to a report in The Star, the IT glitch occurred at the Shell Malaysia’s centralised monitoring system at midnight, and has now resulted in every petrol pump linked to it, being unable to dispense fuel for waiting motorists.
It is learnt that only a handful of petrol pumps still using the older version, and therefore not linked directly to the new system, were open for business as usual as their pumps could dispense with fuel.
They were however limited to cash only transactions as the credit card readers attached to these machines could not be activated and connect to the system, the English daily reported.
The Star said a Shell spokesperson confirmed the incident and said the company was doing everything possible to resolve the issue so business could return to normal.
