KUALA LUMPUR: The only Chinese company to bid for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project is currently holding an exhibition to showcase its experience in the HSR industry.

China HSR Consortium today launched the “Cube” a design of the HSR with simulator, real seats and electronic screens with Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) at KL Sentral.

China Railway International chairman Yang Zhongmin said they wish to establish a collaboration with Malaysia in the railway field to promote a safer and efficient transportation infrastructure.

“The public can get a feel of the HSR in the Cube which will be open for three months,” he told reporters at KL Sentral.

Also present at the event were Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Syed Hamid Albar, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad president, group CEO Azmi Abdul Aziz and Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) group managing director Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.

Syed Hamid said in his speech that Malaysia and Singapore will offer the joint tender development project for the HSR early this year.

“The agreement between Singapore and Malaysia was signed on Dec 13, 2016 and the project will be completed in 2026 as what has been agreed in our bilateral relations.

“The areas that stand to benefit when the project is completed are tourism, real estate and manufacturing as the construction of the HSR will create new job opportunities.”

Syed Hamid also said the Cube exhibition is a good opportunity for the public to experience the HSR.

Meanwhile, Yang said that they hope to win the tender for the HSR project as they have vast experience in the industry.

“In the recent decade, China has made remarkable achievements in the construction and operation of HSR.

“In 2016, the HSR mileage in China had exceeded 22,000km, thus ranking it first in the world.”

He added that the development of the HSR has changed the mode of travel for the people and have become a catalyst for China’s socio-economic development.

“At present, more than 4,500 trains are running, moving 4.5 million passengers daily.”

It was reported that the HSR would link Bandar Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur with the Jurong Lake District in Singapore, with stops in Seremban (Negeri Sembilan), Malacca, and the Johor towns of Muar, Batu Pahat and Iskandar Puteri (formerly Nusajaya).

With the potential to travel at speeds of up to 320kmh, the HSR will move passengers between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in 90 minutes.
