KUALA LUMPUR:
Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) have been ordered to suspend all forms of sponsorship this year, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said only education-related sponsorship would be allowed, while other sponsorships would be scrutinised first.

Ismail Sabri said this when asked about the sponsorship issue involving Kelantan’s football team, The Red Warriors (TRW), in which former Kelantan Football Association (Kafa) president Annuar Musa was accused of having used his position as Mara chairman to ensure Mara and UniKL sponsored the football team.

“I will get a more detailed report from UniKL and Mara. Like I said, I was not informed about this.

“But for the time being, any sponsorships (by Mara and UniKL) must be put on hold first,” he told reporters here today.

Annuar has denied the allegation that Mara had used its funds to sponsor TRW, and that no fee was charged for the “Mara 50th” logo printed on the sleeve of the team jersey last season.
