PETALING JAYA:
Police are pursuing the case of alleged abuse of children by the Society of Caring Hands Ipoh (Sochi), Perak.

The Sun Daily today reported a source as saying police visited the home yesterday to talk and take statements from some of the children.

On Dec 27, the news portal reported that 12 girls had allegedly suffered years of abuse at the hands of the home manager, said to be the wife of a Datuk.

Sochi has managed the home, known as Caring Hands (Kakum Karangal), since 2003.

The allegations of abuse were made when a visiting psychiatrist from Singapore last year apparently found the children displaying irregular behaviour.

His report submitted to the Sochi committee in June prompted the secretary, Dr Subramaniam Suppiah, to lodge a police report on the suspected abuse on June 11.

A second report was made on Aug 12 following a lack of response from the authorities.

On Dec 28, Perak CID chief SAC Gan Tian Kee announced police had completed investigations into the alleged abuse at the home.

“We are in the process of preparing the investigation papers to be submitted to the Bukit Aman CID and deputy public prosecutor,” he was quoted as saying.

Bukit Aman has not revealed the status of the investigation nor has it said whether the papers have been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
