A source from the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT) call centre said traffic flow to and from the East Coast would not be interrupted during the festive season.
Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway concessionaire Anih Bhd announced earlier today the tunnel would be closed to traffic from 8am to 5pm for 60 days, beginning Tuesday, except during the Chinese New Year and Thaipusam holidays.
It said the closure was to facilitate system maintenance and road repair works, which would be suspended during the festive periods.
“The westbound route will be closed to traffic from Jan 10 to Feb 16, and the eastbound route from Feb 20 to March 22. The routes will be open as usual from 6pm to 7am.”
It said a contra flow route would be open during the period.
The source said there would be officers at the tunnel to monitor traffic flow when work was in progress in the tunnel.
“We will also be placing additional signage, blinkers and safety cones 1km from the tunnel to alert motorists of the work being carried out.”
Meanwhile, a Lembaga Lembuhraya spokesperson said all construction companies had been ordered to stop work during the festive season.
“There will be no closure of the tunnel during the CNY period and all work will be suspended.
“All contractors have been instructed to tidy up their worksites and ensure the traffic management plan is in order.”
