Youth exco member Ibdilillah Ishak said he would not be surprised if the former deputy prime minister was asked to quit as president so that deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir could take over.
“This will be easier for Mukhriz’s father, Mahathir, to name him as the prime minister candidate for Pakatan Harapan,” he said in a statement today.
Ibdilillah’s response came after former Batu Kawan Umno deputy chief and PPBM member Khairuddin Abu Hassan’s call on Muhyiddin to come clean over his alleged scandal with a businesswoman.
Yesterday, PPBM’s women’s chief Anina Saadudin was said to have been removed.
She claimed she was stripped of her position due to a “sexting scandal”.
Ibdilillah said if Muhyiddin had nothing to hide, he should take legal action against those who exposed the so-called scandal.
He also said he “sympathised” with PPBM members and supporters who were constantly fed with false hopes.
“A party founded by disappointing people will eventually disappoint its supporters,” he said.
