The victims were identified as Muhammad Arieff Haiqal Md Desa, 16, who is from Kampung Telaga Batu and Muhammad Aqib Naim Safari, 15, a Form 3 student of SMK Jerlun, from Kampung Jerlun.

Kota Setar police chief ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said initial investigations revealed that Arieff, who was riding his motorcycle from Pantai Johor to Sungai Korok collided with the motorcycle ridden by Aqib which was heading in the opposite direction.

He said Arieff, who is a Form 4 student of SMK Tunku Indera Putra, lost control of his vehicle after overtaking another motorcycle before crashing head-on with Aqib’s motorcycle.

“The impact of the incident caused severe injuries to the victims and both died instantly,” he said adding that their bodies were later sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for post mortem.
