The suspect, 23, was duly arrested following his attempt to smuggle the drugs at about 6.10am yesterday morning, at the Tuas Checkpoint, TODAY Online reported.
Immigration officers at the checkpoint were inspecting the man when they realised he could be concealing drugs in his underwear and so, alerted the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), the Singapore’s immigration and checkpoints authority (ICA), said in a statement.
CNB officers at the checkpoint took the necessary action and uncovered two packets of heroin, weighing about 900 grammes and worth more than S$63,000 (RM195,000) on the market, from the Malaysian man’s underwear.
The suspect faces the death penalty if he is convicted. Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) imported is 15g or more, according to the news portal.
