Anis said the youth congress, known as “Kongres Anak Muda Malaysia 2017″ (KAMM), will be held from Feb 17-19 under the banner of youth activist group Demi Malaysia.
She added that the venue of the congress would be announced soon.
The outspoken student activist was last week suspended by UM and was slapped with a RM400 fine following her involvement in the “#TangkapMalaysianOfficial1 (MO1)” rally on Aug 27.
Anis, who is also a spokesperson for Demi Malaysia, said she was targeting 1,000 delegates to attend the congress.
“University students will play a major role in organising this congress. We think the country is in its most critical phase and the time has come for us to do something,” she said.
With the next general election rumoured to be held next year, Anis said a large number of youths had yet to register as voters, pointing out that this was an issue that the congress would address.
“There are 4.7 million unregistered voters. It is very worrying because the polls may be held in less than a year.
“We hope this congress will encourage more youths to register as voters.”
Another Demi Malaysia spokesperson, Amir Abd Hadi, appealed for public donation as the group would be using its own funds to organise the congress.
“This congress will cross the political divide. We invite everyone to attend the congress.
“It doesn’t matter which NGO or political party you’re from, we invite everyone to be with us to vote and debate on youth issues in this congress.”
