PUTRAJAYA: The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that no Malaysians were affected in Monday’s attack at an Islamic centre in Zurich, Switzerland.

The ministry, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Malaysian embassy in Berne was in close contact with the local authorities and had provided timely updates to the Malaysian community in the city over the incident.

The attack, reportedly perpetrated by an unknown assailant, has left three persons injured, two of whom sustained serious injuries.

Local police found a body approximately 500 metres from the centre with the identity and circumstances of death still being ascertained by the relevant authorities, the statement said.

It remains unclear whether the body is related to the shooting at the Islamic centre, located at Eisgasse 6, near Zurich’s central train station.

“The Foreign Ministry extends its sympathy to the families of the victims of the incident,” the statement said.
