“Two Malaysians suffered slight injuries in the attack. They received attention at a nearby hospital and have been declared safe,” the embassy said, adding that it had been in constant contact with Jordanian authorities since the incident.
“The local authorities have been updating us on the status of the Malaysian tourists, and have confirmed that they are all safe,” the embassy said in a statement.
The embassy has also reminded Malaysian students at Mu’tah University, near Karak, to comply with instructions issued by them and the Jordanian authorities, as “this would ensure their safety.”
Reuters reported earlier today that Jordanian authorities said that the four assailants involved in the attack on the Crusader-era castle have been killed, but gave no details as to their nationality nor identity.
A Canadian woman, three other civilians and five police officers were among the nine killed during the exchange of gunfire between the assailants and security forces.
At least 29 people were hospitalised, some with serious injuries.
