PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) will take stern action against Eaglexpress Air if it is found guilty of wrongdoings which resulted in numerous delays of its flight to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Mavcom executive chairman General (R) Abdullah Ahmad told The Sun Daily that Mavcom was investigating the matter.

In a statement yesterday, Eaglexpress Air said it was working closely with authorities in Saudi Arabia to confirm landing slots.

Department of Civil Aviation(DCA) director-general Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said he did not know the reason the airline was denied permission to land in Jeddah, adding that Eaglexpress Air had complied with all DCA regulations.

About 250 pilgrims were stranded after the Eaglexpress Air flight to Jeddah was cancelled on Dec 5.

Spokesperson Farra Alia had said the flight was cancelled because the airline had failed to get permission to land at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

The flight was rescheduled for Dec 6, then Dec 8, Dec 10, Dec 12 and yesterday at 6.30pm. The pilgrims are staying at hotels or homes of friends while waiting for a solution to the matter.

A pilgrim, who did not want to be named, said the pilgrims had been informed by their travel agency, Al-Fajr Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd, that it was doing its best to put them on a flight to Jeddah within a week.

“I spoke to Al-Fajr just now and they said they will look for a flight to fly us there within a week. But don’t even dream of getting a flight on Saturday or Sunday.”

The airline and the travel agency were not available for comment.
